Assessment and diagnosis
Assessment of each client is performed using a whole-person approach. Through listening, observing, appropriate laboratory testing, and the use of evidence-based tools and criteria, diagnoses can be made and a plan developed.
Medication management
Based on diagnoses, medications may be appropriate. Education will be provided to each client so that they can understand how the medications work, possible side effects, and expected outcomes. Regular monitoring will be done to assess for effectiveness and/or need for adjustment.
Holistic and integrative treatments
Supplements and lifestyle changes are often necessary to bring about positive change. Nutritional deficiencies can negatively impact our mental health. Addressing these and other lifestyles issues such as sleep, diet, and exercise will serve to move the patient toward maximal mental health.
Supportive therapy
Supportive therapy is problem-focused and relies on active listening, empathy, adding perspective, and validation of a client’s concerns. By focusing on problem-solving solutions and coping strategies, the client can better cope with emotional distress, improve their ability to manage their daily life, and enhance their overall well-being. Should more intensive therapy be needed, we will advise the client and make recommendations for therapy.
Health education
For a client to make an informed decision, education must be provided. Each client will be educated on their diagnoses, medications recommended, and any other treatment or testing that may be suggested. Together with the provider, the client can then decide how to proceed toward improved mental health.
Genetic testing
At times, a client may not respond to medications and treatments as expected. Genetic testing is a tool that can be used to analyze clinically important genetic variations that impact the metabolism of mental health medications. At Acceptance, we use GeneSight® to provide our clients with an easy-to-use test that is covered by most insurances.
